ESG Recognition Scheme

About

Sustainable development is becoming critical for all corporates across all industries. There has been a global trend of growing awareness about the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards and has increasingly gone mainstream.

The Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) has emerged as a pioneer among local industries and is the first institution to actively promote ESG within the construction sector. In December 2022, HKCA invested HK$10 million to launch the “ESG Recognition Scheme", which aims to build a comprehensive ESG database, provide financial support for the adoption of practitioners to embrace ESG principles.

The scheme including:

ESG Recognition Scheme Platform

The Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA) provide administrative supports to HKCA in operating and maintaining the ESG Recognition Scheme Platform, which provides a structured framework for HKCA members to securely and efficiently collect, manage, and disclose their ESG data. By utilizing this platform, members can demonstrate their commitment to sustainable practices and meet the growing expectations of stakeholders, investors, and regulatory bodies for transparent ESG disclosure.

To ensure the scheme’s practicality and relevance to industry needs, HKCA, in collaboration with industry experts, conducted extensive research, referenced global standards, and carried out broad-based industry trials. These efforts led to the development of 33 ESG indicators tailored for the construction sector.
